A panel swap looks like a job you could do with a socket wrench and a Saturday, and on some doors it almost is. What trips people up is the hinge alignment - get it off by even a little and the new panel will bind against the one next to it every time the door cycles, which wears out the roller fast and puts strain on the opener.
The other issue is weight. A steel panel section isn't light, and on a door that's still running its original spring from 1993, pulling one section changes the balance of the whole door for the few minutes it's apart. If that spring is already weak - which is common on hardware this old - the door can drop hard once the section's out.
If you're comfortable with torsion hardware and have someone to hold the door, a single panel on a smaller single-car door is doable. On anything wider, or if you're not sure what's original and what's been replaced, it's worth a call before you start pulling bolts.
